Twin Houses
Located in a small and tranquil neighborhood on the southern outskirts of Vienna, two identical mirrored houses share the same site.
The houses are structured vertically, each level housing a specific programmatic function. The mass of each of the three above ground levels is shaped depending of its unique function, forming a layered composition.
The ground and top floors (housing the living area and the mixed-use studio, respectfully) share the same architectural vocabulary – a flexible open plan withdrawn from the peripheral silhouette of the volumes, rounded corners and a bronze-coloured stone plaster façade skin, giving the houses a warm and welcoming appeal and a sense of privacy.
The visually dominant middle floor, spatially divided into separate sleeping units, is overhanging the ground level on all sides, creating a cover above the outdoor sitting area. Due to its cuboid shape, sharp edges and smooth white surface, this middle layer has a starker appearance, creating a high-contrast, yet visually balanced architectural composition.
